Several advanced combustion models are incorporated in Cascade Technologies LES software suite to accurately simulate premixed, non-premixed and partially premixed flames. Direct prediction of pollutants such as CO, CO2 and NOx is also possible, meaning that emissions can be easily monitored and tracked. Additionally, Cascade Technologies has considerable experience in flame stability studies applied to afterburners in military jet engines. The real engineering challenge for afterburners is to keep flame stability over a wide range of operating conditions. Flame stability studies using Large Eddy Simulation technology were performed under US government SBIRs phase I and II, and numerical results were validated against experiments at the US Air Force Research Laboratory.
