In the FWH aeroacoustic module – part of Cascade’s Large Eddy Simulation solver infrastructure – the sound at a far-field location can be computed from flow information on an arbitrarily-shaped surface and the volume-distributed sources outside that surface. The input to the FWH solver is the high-fidelity transient flow data on one or more surfaces, extracted from an unstructured Large Eddy Simulation database generated with the compressible flow solver CHARLES. Along with CHARLES, the FWH solver has been used to investigate the different components of jet noise such as screech noise, broadband shock-associated noise and crackle for a wide range of jet configurations, including rectangular jets, chevron nozzle, impinging jets, and military-style nozzles.
