CharLES - Cascade’s flagship product – is a Large Eddy Simulation (LES) software package, representing simply the latest, most advanced generation of flow simulation technology for industrial applications. The numerical schemes embedded in CharLESprovide a high-fidelity representation of turbulent fluctuations without introducing any artificial damping, i.e. numerical dissipation. No adjustable coefficients are used, meaning no ad-hoc tuning is required. Substantial effort was devoted to the efficiency of the algorithms and their applicability to large scale parallel computations (of the order of 150,000+ cores). All the physical models in CharLES are modified and enhanced to take advantage of the wealth of information provided by the direct representation of large scale turbulent motions. CharLES is currently being used by Cascade Technologies and several industrial firms around the world to tackle some of the most challenging engineering problems in aeroacoustics, turbulent combustion and multiphase flows.
